Greenwood Baskets

Alison Fitzgerald fell in love with willow more than 20 years ago when she came to live in Ireland. “The beautiful, slender, brightly coloured stems gently swaying in the winter sun inspired me to weave”. Alison then established Greenwood Baskets in Armagh a few years later and after 20 years weaving has made an inspired move to Priory Cottages, Benburb.
An understanding of the natural qualities of willow is a feature of Greenwood Baskets. Strong, gently curving frame baskets look elegant and modern but are based on ancient traditional forms; log and carrying baskets may have curved tops and spiral or zigzag weaving; ‘wandering willow’ wall designs suggest swirls of movement with smoothly bending willows, the tips folded back into leaf-like shapes.
All have subtle blends of natural bark colours and are made to order.

Group classes and individual tuition can be arranged at the workshop or at other venues. Residential courses, with accommodation at Benburb Priory, take place in the spring and autumn. For more information place contact Alison on the details provided.
