Alison Fitzgerald Exhibition at CraftNI

An exhibition of Alison Fitzgerald’s Baskets is showing at CraftNI, Waring Street, Belfast until the end of July 2009. Fitzgerald’s basketry displays an understanding of the natural qualities of willow and is much respected for its grace, simplicity and strength. Strong, gently curving frame baskets are based on ancient traditional forms. Log and carrying baskets may have curved tops and spiral or zigzag weaving, whereas ‘wandering willow’ wall designs suggest swirls of movement with smooth bends, the tips folded back into leaf-like shapes.
